“Help” she cried, “help” she said,
But none were listening, for they were all dead,
Dead in the brain and dead in the head,
Numb to all of the anguish she felt,
TV, and booze, and jobs that work them,
Had left them distracted, tired and dumb,
She sat and she waited, but no-one did come,
For the world is cruel to someone so young,
In silence and darkness she fell to the floor,
She knew that she could take it no more,
She wept and she smiled as she reached in the drawer,
The contents of which were the last that she saw.
