Fergie’s Toxic Legacy

Like many people on Tuesday night, I couldn’t quite believe what I was witnessing. It was not just the defeat of Manchester United, but it was the total collapse of everything that they once represented.

Following the woeful performance by The Red Devils, which resulted in a 4-0 defeat to MK Dons, it is becoming more and more obvious what the problem is. It is a deep, inherent issue that runs through almost the entire Manchester United squad. The problem is quality.

All Roads Lead To Anfield… Apparently

The transfer merry go round is well under way, and if reports are to be believed Liverpool may be on the journey all summer.

I am not one to delve into speculation usually, I think posts and articles with such imaginative titles as “5 Bundesliga Players Destined For Anfield” and “10 Wonderkids Rodgers Should Sign” are the footballing equivalent of gossip columns. It may get the heart racing for a short while, but it does little more than promote fantasy and untruth.

World Cup Post Mortem

Do we look back at this World Cup and see the self-destruction of Brazil? The worst ever England performance at an international tournament? And another instance of Luis Suarez feeling peckish?

Not particularly positive messages to take from one of the best international tournaments that I can recall. Although the tournament had those aspects, it was also the stage for new stars to shine, James Rodriguez in particular, doing his reputation no harm. It was the moment when a decade and a half long project finally achieved its target, with Germany lifting an international trophy. It was the moment when Miroslav Klose became the greatest ever World Cup goalscorer. And it was also perhaps the moment when US Soccer fans finally fell in love with the game.
